Born in Limithana village of Parbat district (West Nepal), I Ghanashyam Adhikari
(SHYAM) studied at Manipur University (India). After graduating, I took up a job in a pharmaceutical company. Seven years later I was disillusioned and my understanding of the curing effects of medicine on patients had completely changed. Medicine,- I realised-, did little to free people from sickness and disease and some of these medicines could also have long term side effects.
This realisation awakened and inspired me to do research on how people could be freed from diseases and medical treatment forever. The outcome? I ended up attending Swami Vivekananda Yoga Centre for yoga lessons and meditation.
After completion of my training, I never looked back.
I attended Yoga camps and mastered different practices in various parts of India. I also took courses on Yoga and natural therapies at Nepal Sanskrit University that refined both my knowledge and skills on this matter.
Yoga,- I learned-, is the prevention of negative inclination, the negative thoughts that
arise in our minds which have various effects in our body leading to illnesses. It is also a discipline and self-restoration life style which teaches us to live a long and healthy life. Besides which, it enhances our resistance to illness.
In short, yoga is not just an exercise but an art of living healthily (physically, mentally, emotionally and also socially). This learning package kept haunting me. As a result, I started working as a yoga teacher in Holistic Yoga Ashram.
Today, seven years later, three wishes remain unchanged:
The wish to make yoga accessible to everyone;
The wish to teach those who want to learn, and to train those who want to contribute to build a “free-of-illness” society by becoming yoga teachers.
The wish to extend my professional service by opening centers for overseas visitors, nationals, the disabled, the elderly, etc.
If everybody learns how to fight illness by means of yoga, sudden loss of life can be prevented. I warmly welcome assistance or communication of any kind from all well-wishers and philanthropists interested in making those three wishes happen.
